Word in Arabic: (ياني)

Transliterated into English letters: Yani

How to say it: y-ah-nee

What it means: "It means..." ; "That is to say..."

How to use it: "I'm going to go out for a while; yani, I'll be back in about an hour."


Dialogue Example:

Man A: "Are you coming to the wedding party tonight?"

Man B: "I don't know."

Man A: "What? Why?"

Man B: "Yani, I really just don't feel like it."

Ooooo good one! This is one of my favorite Arabic words to use! I got so used to saying it that I would accidentally use it in my English conversations lol. That and "mashy". I'm bad about saying that to everyone.

lol, I'm too shy about actually speaking the words to have that problem yet. My husband frequently says things like that to me though. Sometimes he slips into Arabic when he's talking to me, and sometimes he can't remember his Arabic at all! Ahh... languages. Rolling Eyes I'm currently learning Greek. Smile
